Trauma Therapy, Dissociative Disorders Therapy and ADHD Evaluations in Buffalo, New York and Oregon
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 9 years of experience. My style is structured but down to earth with humor, warmth and a little profanity sprinkled in!
I am EMDR certified; that means I work with folks who have been through difficult and painful experiences that continue to affect their life today. Some of those experiences may include neglect, loss, abuse or stigma. I use a social justice lens and provide weight neutral care. I acknowledge the systems that keep folks oppressed and the challenges and trauma that those systems create.
I am currently accepting clients who need support with the following:
-Dissociative Disorders (including DID and RAMCOA survivors)
-Complex trauma or those specifically looking for trauma reprocessing (EMDR or IFS work)
-Those in larger bodies looking to heal their relationship with food and or body and are not looking for assistance with intentional weight loss
-Those in need of a Neurodivergent Affirming ADHD assessment
about Sam (she/her)
I am loudly political in my local community and online. I believe therapy is innately political as it is the systemic oppression of marginalized groups and capitalism that affect our mental health the most. I am a Health At Every Size (HAES) or weight neutral provider. This means I do not promote intentional weight loss and recognize all factors that affect someone’s health - trauma, genetics, marginalized identities, socioeconomic status, abilities, mental health, etc.
My ideal client…
Has tried traditional talk therapy and feels like, “It was helpful for a while but I’m ready for more.”
Is radicalized and tired of our oppressive systems and desires a therapist with shared values.
My Background
I bounced between bulimia and sub-clinical bulimia for 8 years of my life, rooted in childhood trauma and our fatphobic societal brain washing. I have dealt with generalized anxiety and panic attacks since I was a teen. There was a time in my life when I believed in my core, “I am disgusting, not good enough and unlovable.”
Trauma work—specifically IFS—saved my life. It helped me find, heal and fall in love with all parts of me. That experience motivates me daily in my clinical work!
I received my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Buffalo.
